7.8 m Regional Force Surveillance Unit: Surveillance Vessel

The Regional Force Surveillance Units (RFSU’s) are specialised infantry units used by the Australian Army Reserve. They are responsible for conducting long range reconnaissance and surveillance patrols in the remote and sparsely populated regions of northern Australia.

Using a 6-cylinder Steyr diesel and waterjet, these surveillance vessels can achieve a top speed of 33 knots and cruise comfortably at speeds of around 20 knots. The use of waterjet propulsion allows for shallow draft operations and greater manoeuvrability, and makes these vessels highly adaptable and capable.
