Cape Wickham

The new Tasmanian Police vessel, launched in June of 2017, will serve alongside the current police patrol vessel Van Diemen.

Cape Wickham, while similar in looks to Van Diemen, represents a significant upgrade over the current vessel. The new vessel has an overall length of 24.95m and is powered by two CAT C32 engines, giving a top speed in excess of 28 knots. A range exceeding 1000 nautical miles allows Cape Wickham to comfortably patrol Tasmania’s extensive coastline.

The vessel also features two smaller daughter craft. One RHIB is able to be launched via the stern door and aft ramp, while a smaller dinghy can be launched from the upper deck. The combination of mother-ship and daughter craft provide Cape Wickham with patrol, fisheries and search and rescue capabilities.

Construction and fit-out was completed by Fine Entry Marine of Geraldton, with all structure constructed from marine grade aluminium.BOA_AUS_2017_SOUTHERLY
